Euphonium to feature again in the Proms

The BBC Proms has launched the 2018 season of the world’s largest classical music festival and featuring in Prom 3 at London's Royal Albert Hall is euphonium soloist, David Childs. 

The BBC Young Musician of the Year celebrates its 40th Anniversary this year and is marking the occasion in style with a Proms concert featuring illustrious past winners and finalists, including Nicola Benedetti, Freddy Kempf, Natalie Clein, Colin Currie, and David Childs. 

The programme will feature three new works: Ben Foster’s 'Fantasia on the Young Musician Theme', David Bruce’s 'Sidechaining' and Iain Farrington’s 'Gershwinicity', in which David will feature as one of several soloists. 

Commenting on his return to the Proms David stated: “I’m delighted to be performing at the BBC Proms again, and honoured to be involved in a concert with so many fine musicians. My BBC Young Musician of the Year experience contributed hugely to the career I enjoy today and I’m delighted to be celebrating the competition’s 40th anniversary in such esteemed company.” 

The concert takes place on 15th July with the BBC Concert Orchestra, conducted by Andrew Gourlay, and will be broadcast live on BBC 4 television and BBC Radio 3. Further details can be found at: https://www.bbc.co.uk/proms
