SWBBA Mid-Winter Workshop Success
The South West Brass Band Association recently held their annual Mid-Winter Workshop, with help from members of the Cory Band, at West Buckland School, near Barnstaple.
Helped by support from Arts Council England, Co-op Funeralcare and North Devon Music Centre who nominated a number of students for participation, 120 delegates were given two days of intensive tuition by M.D. Philip Harper and players Tom Hutchison, Glyn Williams, Helen Williams and Ailsa Russell.
Organiser John Croker commented: "We had a terrific response this year and even had to close the application list in early January as we had reached capacity."
The event concluded with a concert presented to an appreciative audience including the President of SWBBA Sue Richards. Two annual awards made in memory of Goff Richards, the late President of SWBBA, were presented to George Watts from Bideford Band, and Matt Opie, a soprano player from Bodmin Town Band.
