Argente heads up Brass at the RWCMD

Roger Argente, renowned bass trombonist with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, began his role as the new Head of Brass Performance at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama on Monday 5th February. Roger chose to introduce himself to the brass students of the RWCMD on his first day by way of a superb masterclass, during which he ably demonstrated the performing talents that led to him notching up over 25 years' service with one of the world's leading orchestras.

Following the masterclass Kevin Price, the Head of Music Performance, led an open interview session with Roger answering questions about his career as the Principal Trombonist with the RPO where he worked with some of the finest conductors and soloists, in some of the most prestigious concert halls and festivals across the world. In addition to his extensive orchestral pedigree, Roger also spoke about the hugely acclaimed 'Superbrass', which he created in 2005 and his work as a highly experienced educator and teacher. The students and staff of the RWCMD were left in no doubt what a tremendous all-round musician they have in Roger.

Dr. Robert Childs, who has been acting as interim Head of Brass Performance, supporting Kevin Price in his role as Head of Music Performance since September commented on the appointment, "Roger is a first-class musician who will have a huge impact on the brass students here at the RWCMD. The expertise and musicianship, that he displayed to us all today - his first day in post, is unquestionable, but more than that he is a really great guy. I'm delighted that he has returned to Wales as Head of Brass Performance."
