Cory returns to Bristol University

Cory makes a return to Bristol University next month. The band will perform a new work for brass band by the University Music Department's Professor John Pickard. Cory is no stranger to the compositions of John Pickard, as he had a very close association with the band as composer in residence during Dr. Robert Childs' tenure as Musical Director. This eagerly awaited latest work for brass band is entitled, 'Rain, Steam and Speed' and is based on J.M.W. Turner's famous painting of the same name.

In another link with Bristol, Cory's Principal Cornet extraordinaire, Tom Hutchinson will perform former lecturer Dr. Derek Bourgeois' 'Concerto for Cornet', his last composition, before his sad demise last year.

There will also be an opportunity to hear 'Destination Moon', a piece by the band's current M.D. who is himself an Alumni of Bristol University, as well as some brass band music from the English National Opera Artistic Director, Martyn Brabbins.

The concert takes place at the Victoria Rooms within Bristol University on Sunday 18th February at 3pm.
