Silver Jubilee for Onyx!
Onyx Brass is one of the rare breed of chamber ensembles whose musical and technical virtuosity is matched by the accessibility and vitality of their presentation. Their mission is to have their extraordinary abilities at the disposal of the music at all times, and to play music of the requisite quality to reflect the status of the brass quintet as a serious medium for chamber music. The richness and warmth of their sound is remarked upon by all who hear them, leading BBC Music Magazine to dub the group, "The classiest brass ensemble in Britain".
Formed back in 1993 Onxy Brass are this year celebrating their 25th birthday. A spokesperson from the group commented, "We are still pushing the medium of the brass quintet with as much enthusiasm and gusto, even though some of us are a little more creaky and follicly challenged than way back then!"
The group has a busy year to celebrate this milestone; highlights including the release of their Fanfares and Jazz project recordings, participating in the Jackdaws Music Education Trust project, The Year of Brass and a recital at the Wigmore Hall in London.
