Virtuosi GUS Band Award Winners 2017

Virtuosi GUS took the opportunity to present the coveted band awards of the John Berryman Shield for 'Player of the Year' and the William Smith 'Bandsman of the Year' at their end of year concert in Kettering.

Player of the Year was awarded to Principal Cornet, Thomas Fountain. The award was chosen and presented by the band's Musical Director, Adam Cooke, at the annual Christmas concert on home soil, in Kettering. A spokesperson for the band told BBW, "Tom’s stunning performances throughout 2017 never cease to amaze audiences and band members alike, particularly at Brass in Concert and the National Finals this year. Congratulations Tom, fully deserved."

The coveted William Smith Bandsman of The Year Award, voted for by the players themselves, was awarded to baritone player, Amy Ewen. A player from within the band commented, "Amy has recently taken on the role of PR Manager within the Band, and in a very short space of time has dramatically enhanced our social media presence. Amy has also been a bright shining light both inside and outside of the rehearsal room and this award is richly deserved recognition for somebody who has so has not only achieved so much in a short space of time but also clearly has much to offer the Band over the coming years."
