RWCMD brass band kick start Christmas
On Friday 8th December the brass band of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama performed their annual Christmas themed lunchtime concert at St David's Hall, Cardiff. The impressively sized audience, numbering over 700, were treated to Festive delights and playing of the very highest standard, which has now become a hallmark of the band under the leadership of Dr Robert Childs.
Dr Childs had the audience captivated with his informative introductions and charming manner, with everyone, young or old, able to relax and revel in the spirit of Christmas. The programme contained some challenging Festive Fayre including 'Santaclaustrophobia', 'Midnight Sleighride' and a beautiful performance of 'Christmas song'.
The band also took the opportunity to showcase the talents of the RWCMD students with some superb solo contributions. As well as the wonderful playing, these features were all delivered with more than a drop of Christmas Cheer. Three euphonium playing Santas performed 'O Holy Night' and a snowperson gave a fantastic rendition of 'Frosty the Snowman' complete with a snowball fight mid performance. The band even drafted in the assistance of Andy Wareham, a Master's Degree student, to conduct the ever popular Jingle Bells. Dressed in full elf costume Andrew encouraged the audience to join in the performance with clapping and singing, which they did with enthusiasm.
Make sure you book this date in your diary for next year, as tickets will sell like hot cakes and this is one Christmas treat that should not be missed.
