Capt. Sam Hairsine RM to direct Grimethorpe’s Brass in Concert challenge 

It was with great pleasure and excitement that Grimethorpe Colliery Band announced that they will be conducted by Captain Sam Hairsine of the Royal Marines at this year’s Brass in concert championships. The band have already enjoyed working with Sam earlier this year and now look forward to him preparing them for this prestigious entertainment contest.  

Captain Sam Hairsine is the Director of Music of the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, CTCRM. He began his musical journey as a choral scholar, before taking up the euphonium under the expert guidance of Robert Childs. He has been a member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and has also performed with Championship section brass bands. On joining the Royal Marines Band Service, he learned the cello, and commenced a career that has taken him around the world.His conducting studies started with Malcolm Binney, and he completed his Master’s programme at the RNCM under Clark Rundell and Mark Heron. 

Speaking about the appointment Sam said: “I’m absolutely delighted to have been invited to conduct Grimethorpe at Brass in Concert. It’s a very exciting project and a real privilege to be able to join such an amazing band in their centenary year.”
