Haverhill and Hutchinson Inspire

Haverhill Silver Band were delighted to welcome Cory's principal cornet Tom Hutchinson as their guest soloist at their most recent concert performance at the Haverhill Arts Centre. They also gave the world premiere of a new work, 'Yompers' by composer Craig Sanders. The piece depicts the story of 45 Commando Royal Marines' role in the 1982 Falklands Conflict as told in Ian Gardiner's book of the same name.

Craig, whose father Antony plays solo euphonium in the band, is a full time Royal Marine and has a close connection with Haverhill. A band spokesperson commented: "Craig travelled to the Falkland Islands with the Royal Marines in 2013, which gave him an understanding of the brutal conditions that the British and Argentine forces fought in. The story of 45 Commando 'Yomping' across the Islands is not commonly known, and he felt it should be shared through this composition.

"Craig played with the band on percussion, and we were honoured to be premiering the work. All this and we were truly delighted to feature Tom Hutchinson as guest soloist. He is a wonderful player who thrilled the audience with his solo playing. It was a concert to remember."
