Flowers appoint new Solo Horn
Ahead of the British Open Championships, Flowers Band have announced the signing of Emily Evans as their new solo horn player.
Originally from Camborne, Emily has just completed her third year of study at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (RWCMD). A former Principal Solo Horn of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain (NYBBGB) and the National Children's Brass Band of Great Britain, Emily has previously played Solo Horn with the Tongwynlais Temperance Band and the Lanner & District Silver Band.
Flowers' Principal Conductor David Childs commented: "Through the NYBBGB and the RWCMD I've known Emily's playing for many years and have always been impressed by her beautiful sound, control and lyricism; qualities ideally suited to this position. I feel this is a positive signing for both the band and the player, and look forward to working with Emily in the future."
Since studying at the RWCMD, where she receives lessons from tenor horn virtuoso, Owen Farr, Emily has won the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Competition (2016 and 2017), the McGrenery Chamber Prize (2017) and also reached the final of this year's prestigious Linda Mowatt solo competition.
On her appointment at Flowers, Emily told BBW: "I’m really looking forward to joining the band and working with David Childs. The opportunity provides a new challenge and has come at a great time for me, just as I start my final year at the RWCMD."
