Michael Dodd departs Grimethorpe
Following 20 years of distinguished service, Michael Dodd has resigned as principal euphonium of Grimethorpe Colliery Band. Michael joined Grimethorpe from Brighouse in 1997, having previously been a member of Grimethorpe Junior Band.
Recognised as one of the finest euphonium players of his generation, Michael has won solo awards at the European Championships, Brass in Concert Championships, National Championships of Great Britain and the Yorkshire Regional Championships. In addition, his highlights with Grimethorpe have included performances in Carnegie Hall, New York and the Sydney Opera House.
Michael told BBW: “I've been struggling for some time to keep my diabetes under control, and with Grimethorpe's busy schedule I've found it increasingly difficult. This is my 20th year with the band, and although I can barely remember life before Grimethorpe and know I will sorely miss everything about it, this is the right time for me to leave.”
News of Michael's successor has yet to be announced.
