Black Dyke to play Glastonbury

When you're the world famous Black Dyke Band, and you’ve played concerts at Carnegie Hall New York, the Sydney Opera House, the NHK Hall Tokyo, the KKL Lucerne, the Royal Albert Hall London and Symphony Hall Birmingham, to name a few, you might be forgiven for thinking there were not many other venues of note left to perform at, however, you would be sadly mistaken!

There’s a performance space in the middle of a field in rural Somerset that many artists would give their platinum discs to appear at, including Black Dyke, who are looking forward to making their Glastonbury debut later this year.

Black Dyke MD, Nicholas Childs told BBW: “When Michael Eavis asked us to perform on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury last year, we unfortunately had to decline as we were performing at the other end of the country the night before and an early performance the next day was just impossible. However, this year we made certain our diary was free!”

Last year's congested diary may have been bad news for Black Dyke, but not so for Burnham and Highbridge Band who gave their own 'Pyramid Stage' Glastonbury Festival performance, under the baton of young Stephen Sykes, together with Caravan Paradise, Gregory Porter, Coldplay and others, on Sunday 26th June 2016.

On Black Dyke's appearance later this year, Nicholas Childs continued, “We are always innovative in our concert planning and aim to reach new audiences, especially those who wouldn’t have been exposed to what a world class brass band can achieve. We are certainly looking forward to this experience!"

The Beatles never appeared at the Glastonbury Festival, but the band that backed them on their two million selling disc, ”Yellow Submarine” will be there this summer!

Black Dyke will also be appearing at the prestigious Glastonbury Abbey Extravaganza in August, last year headlined by Van Morrison and Jamie Cullum. More details available here.
