Wellington make history
Evan Sayer, President of the Brass Band Association of New Zealand Inc., brings the action from the nation’s National Championships in Napier, where Wellington entered the record books
The 2016 New Zealand Championships were hosted in the city of Napier, Hawke’s Bay, from the 13 to 18 July 2016. It’s 136 years since the first New Zealand National Contest - the first being held in Napier in 1898, where they were also held as recently as 2009.
This year saw Wellington Brass Band win its fourth consecutive NZ Campionship title - all under David Bremner. The band now enters the record books for notching up four wins in a row, beating previous hat tricks by Wellington Garrison (1897-1900), Wanganui (1904-1907) and Woolston Brass (2009-2012).
