David Thornton’s influence has reached pretty much every area of banding across the world, underpinned by career developments in the last year that have brought more high-profile success. Christopher Thomas caught up with the euphonium star following his recent a trans-Atlantic concert tour

For the Nottingham-born Solo Euphonium player of Foden’s, the last 12 months have been momentous by any standards. His pioneering solo CD, Parallel Realities, an ear-opening, yet highly engaging exploration of largely new repertoire for his instrument, swept a remarkable banding media ‘triple’ as Solo CD of the Year by Brass Band World, swiftly followed by other brass band media outlets, whilst his recent appointment as Senior Tutor in Brass Bands at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) is already paying dividends as his progressive and passionate attitude to education takes hold.
