Pro Practice: Les Neish on fighting fear
In the third of his five-part master class series, the irrepressible Besson Artist and international tuba soloist, Les Neish, faces our fears.
We can spend endless hours preparing repertoire for a contest, audition, concert, exam, etc., but many of us always have to overcome the nervousness and anxiety that a big performance can bring.
Andrea Bocelli says: ‘Stage fright is my worst problem. A voice is very intimate. It’s something of your own, so there’s always this fear because you feel naked. There’s a fear of not reaching up to expectations.’
Fear can be categorised into three different types:
- Fear of failure
- Fear of success
- Fear of the unknown
