Cory celebrates Battle of Britpop for Decca

Decca Records has just released a CD marking 25 years of Britpop and its iconic ‘anthems’, featuring none other than Cory Band led by its MD, Philip Harper, produced by the big ticket pop industry producer, Rupert Christie. Nicola Bland finds out why a monolithic recording company opted for a brass band to celebrate a pop industry birthday.

‘To coincide with the 25th anniversary of The Battle Of Britpop back in 1993, the monolithic record label, Decca Records, has announced the release of a unique collection of songs from the period that defined the 1990s - with a difference. All the songs are performed by Cory Band, which Decca bills as ‘the best brass band in the World!’ and feature brass interpretations of Britpop classics by the likes of Blur, Oasis, Suede and Pulp…’
