BBW Castaway: Howard Snell with Katrina Marzella
Black Dyke's baritone star, Katrina Marzella, introduces her latest Desert Island Discs Castaway
It my sincere pleasure to welcome Howard Snell to Brass Band World’s Castaway. Mr. Snell has been a considerable inspiration to me and countless other brass musicians for many years through his seemingly endless playing, pedagogical, compositional and conducting talents. On 14 October, his colourful work, Gallery, will test British bands in the National Final at the Royal Albert Hall, London; what a treat for all concerned! When faced with the prospect of being a castaway, Howard explained his decisions as follows:
“I have always thought choosing eight pieces, above all others, to be an impossible task. To nail down a list that excludes 99.99% of music - how cruel! So I decided to filter through eight moments in my life and career, for which I have a special memory.”
