Bolsover goes live worldwide

BBW’s Chief Contributor, Christopher Thomas and Iwan Fox of 4barsrest.com beamed into 32 countries as they fronted the live Internet stream of Bolsover Festival of Brass on 1 October. Christopher over-views the event’s success story, built on a spirit of adventure.

For those of us that are involved in the brass band media, there can sometimes be a tendency to concentrate on the bad news - the all too familiar stories that paint a picture of a brass band scene in seemingly dangerous decline. Yet in the former mining communities of North East Derbyshire, there is a success story that has defied the odds. It is a brass band entertainment contest that has grown year-on-year since its inception in 2005, against a background of other contests that have struggled with reduced entries and even, in some sad cases, extinction….
