‘Armani Music Man’ – Bruce Fraser

Black Dyke baritone soloist, Katrina Marzella, paints a portrait of her friend - the teacher, composer and arranger, Bruce Fraser, who died in February this year, but whose music and teaching touched the lives of many.

It is with a heavy heart, but a profound sense of responsibility and admiration that I write this tribute to Bruce Fraser, who died suddenly on 16 February 2017. Bruce was due to celebrate his 70th birthday this October with his wife Pat, daughter Lynn, son-in-law Stephen, and grandchildren Rebecca, Talitha and Ethan.

A well-known and respected composer, teacher, conductor and adjudicator in the brass band community, Bruce’s musical versatility meant he was comfortable working with a broad spectrum of genres, from brass and wind bands, to orchestras and choirs. Born in India, he spent most of his life living and working in his beloved Fife on Scotland’s east coast. He adored his involvement with wind and brass bands, and was active in the band scenes throughout his life - his reputation and music ultimately enjoying international reach...
