The ‘remarkable’ James Williams MBE

In 1997, James Williams became only the second Salvation Army musician to be awarded the Iles Medal and, in 1995, he received the Certificate of Exceptional Service for his service as Bandmaster of Enfield Citadel. The Queen also honoured his services to brass bands and The SA with an MBE in her 2002 Golden Jubilee Birthday Honours. The SA’s Director of Music and Creative Arts, and conductor of its International Staff Band, Dr. Stephen Cobb, pays tribute to the man and musician whose influence touched so many musicians inside and outside The Salvation Army.
