International Euphonium and Tuba Festival

Band has broken up for the summer, but that doesn’t mean letting your musical skills gather dust for two months – quite the reverse because there are several destinations across the World at which you can holiday and continue to hone your skills. David Childs reports from the IET Festival which this year attracted 100 euphonium and tuba players from around the World.

The 14th Annual International Euphonium Tuba (IET) Festival took place from 18 - 24 June in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

The event welcomed euphonium and tuba players from all over the World, and focused on inspiring and developing players to achieve their highest playing potential.

Open to players ages 13 and above, it is organised by American euphonium soloist, Adam Frey, and this year hosted nearly 100 participants and 15 staff hailing from ten countries.

2017’s euphonium and tuba professors included Glenn Van Looy, Øystein Baadsvik, Brian Bowman, Adam Frey, Aaron Tindall, Lance LaDuke, Michael Colburn, Alex Lapins, Jim Self, Chris Buckley and I.

The week provided an incredible number of performance opportunities for participants, who took part in daily warm-up and fundamental classes, a large ensemble (a 100-member group), chamber music, 14 performance master classes, a career development discussion panel and eight evening recitals by all the guest artists.
